Hysteric No. 1: Spring-Summer 1991
Nobuhiko Kitamura, founder of Hysteric Glamour published the first book via his brand in 1991. Books have always been a creative output for the brand, partnering with many artists over the brands history. The first ever book Hysteric book asks 13 different photographers to capture "Hysteric Energy."
The result is black and white photographs by Hiroshi Yoda, Yoko Hida, Osamu Wataya, Masataka Ishida, Taishi Hirokawa, Kimie Hata, Gregory Takezo Yermakov, Minoru Inaba, Kiyoshi Tatsukawa, Mikio Hasui, Eiichi Kashimura, Yasuo Matsumoto and Ikko Narahara.
The last page of the book reads: "We grasp the considerably wide connotation of the word 'Hysteric,' and the emotions usually associated with hysteria. However, looking at it in a different light, we can begin to feel the energy in the word 'Hysteric.' The image which comes to mind is that of high tension and taut nerves, and can never be seen as apathetic. Hereafter, we want to make a series of these books with people who firmly believe they have the energy to elevate the feeling of 'Hysteric.' Before long, the concept of 'Hysteric' might be changed."
